Money for Main Street: Financing for Community Development [audio-PA1]  $269.00

Money for Main Street: Financing for Community Development

CD Publications presents "Money for Main Street: Financing for Community Development," an audio conference focusing on the plethora of community development programs now being funded by the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act. This unique 90-minute event will guide you through the complexities of funding formulas for the Community Development Block Grants program, Emergency Shelter Grants, the Public Housing Capital Fund, Sec. 8 housing, and so much more. Plus, our expert analysts will spell out exactly what the Department of Housing & Urban Development will be asking grant seekers to provide in terms of application support materials, explaining some of HUD's most complex funding programs.

The "Money for Main Street: Financing for Community Development" audio conference will bring you up to speed on the New Markets Tax Credit program as well as Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs).  We'll show you how local governments can work with CDFIs in leveraging local resources for quick access to federal funding. We'll help you identify key activities in which CDFIs are most likely to invest, and show you the best ways to attract CDFI attention and support.

Our Expert Presenters:

  • Thomas Harman, senior editor of Community Development Digest, is a veteran journalist with more than 25 years of experience covering national politics and federal policy-making in Washington, DC. As long-time editor of Community Development Digest, he is widely considered a leading expert in the area of HUD funding for community development projects. He has reported extensively on the Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG), Congressional legislation, agency regulations, community development-related court decisions, and the full range of HUD-based funding opportunities.
  • Fredric Cooper, contributing editor to CDD, is the former Deputy Director for Policy & Programs for the U.S. Treasury Department's Community Development Financial Institutions Fund. He currently serves as president of Community Development Concepts Advisory Services, Inc., a Silver Spring, Maryland-based consulting firm specializing in CDFIs, community development collaboratives and intermediaries, and public agencies. The firm's work includes capitalization strategies; operational supports; investor relations; executive coaching; strategic and business planning; partnership development; and market assessments.

And keep in mind that we'll be setting aside plenty of time for your specific questions. With so much funding being made available so quickly, our readers have been flooding us with questions, and we're sure your staff will as well. That's why we're allowing ample opportunity for Q&A -- and you're even encouraged to contact our presenters before the audio conference to make sure you get your questions answered!
