Federal Foundation Assistance Monitor

Mitchell Kapor Foundation

Deadline: Rolling.

Founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Mitchell Kapor in 1997, the Mitchell Kapor Foundation's grants program focuses on funding organizations which are working to ensure justice and equity for vulnerable and underserved communities.

Its Project 2008 initiative recognizes the importance of voting and the need to protect the utmost integrity of the electoral process. The Foundation is interested in work which addresses the following categories: Voter Participation, with a focus on implementing nonpartisan strategies to improve voter education and registration; and Election Protection, with a focus on ensuring that every eligible voter can vote and that every ballot cast is counted.

The foundation will also accept application from organizations seeking to build their capacity to deliver their services. Grant award range from $25,000 to $50,000.

T work of our grantee organizations should either shift paradigms by reaching beyond the status quo to present issues and solutions in fresh and innovative ways, or increase the reach of effective work through scaling and expanding programs or projects.

Given the foundation's demographic focus, its support is targeted at projects which impact people of color; this means that 60% or more of the program's target population identify as Black/African American, Asian/Pacific American, Latino/Hispanic American, Native American, or mixed heritage. The foundation also supports work that points out and dismantles white privilege, helping to build equitable relationships across race/ethnicity.
