(ENVIRONMENT) Idaho Public-Private Partnership Attracts Funding Attention

A new Idaho public-private partnership between the state, Idaho-based universities, several private companies and other partners creates an Energy Efficiency Research Institute.

The Institute will focus on the science, policy and implementation of energy efficiency, utilizing expertise in engineering and environmental science. Its mission will be to test and evaluate technologies designed to save energy and provide training for engineers, architects and other workers in the energy efficiency field.

Public-private partners include: Idaho Office of Energy Resources; Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES), a partnership including the University of Idaho, Boise State University, Idaho State University and the Idaho National Laboratory; Idaho Power; other private companies; Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce; and Natural Resources Defense Council.

Exclusive FAM insider tip: This is the type of partnering that attracts bipartisan funding attention at the federal level. Federal funding is increasingly focused on efforts that involve multiple stakeholders, especially with green technology. For example, the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) Program at the Energy Dept. essentially has the same goal as this Idaho project--deploy the cheapest, cleanest and most reliable energy technologies.
