Federal Foundation Assistance Monitor

(COMMUNITIES) Program Provides $100M for Economic Recovery

Agency: Commerce Dept. (Economic Development Admin., EDA); Program: Supplemental Appropriations Disaster Relief Opportunity (Funding Opportunity Number: EDA10012008DISASTERSUPPLEMENTAL); Eligibility: Governments, institutions of higher education and nonprofits; Funding: $100 million; Deadline: Sept. 30, 2009.

Purpose: Funds go to regions experiencing severe economic distress as a result of the flooding, storms or tornadoes in the Midwest and other recent natural disasters. EDA solicits applications for Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) investments.

Applicants will use EAA's flexible set of program tools to develop and implement long-term economic redevelopment strategies for the recently disaster-impacted regions.

EAA provides a wide range of technical, planning and infrastructure assistance. This program is designed to respond adaptively to pressing economic recovery issues and is well suited to help address the challenges faced by the regions affected by the Midwest storms and floods and other recent natural disasters.

Assistance can support development of a strategy to alleviate economic dislocation caused by the disaster (that is, a strategy grant) or support project implementation (an implementation grant), such as infrastructure improvements.
