Private Funders Focus on Creative Placemaking

The Kresge Foundation and A Blade of Grass are two private funders who are focusing on supporting creative placemaking projects, which combine arts/culture with community revitalization. Kresge's Pioneering New Approaches accepts applications at any time. The program supports the testing of new creative placemaking approaches that integrate arts and culture into multiple sectors, disciplines and systems concerned with community revitalization. Kresge believes the creative placemaking concept is not well understood, and that lack of clarity inhibits more widespread adoption of the practice. By testing and documenting new approaches to creative placemaking, it expects to gain a deeper understanding of the contributions arts and culture can make within other systems and of integrative processes that can be widely deployed.
