Apprenticeship Programs to Receive Funding Boost

A subcommittee of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, chaired by Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY), holds a hearing on implementing the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (PL 113-218), with a focus on apprenticeship programs funded by the law at the Labor Dept.’s Employment and Training Administration.   Guthrie said the hearing “could not be timelier as President Trump announced new executive measures (http://tinyurl.com/yboznulx) to strengthen the nation’s workforce education and development programs, focusing on apprenticeship programs.” The White House’s executive order will revamp the ApprenticeshipUSA Innovation and Expansion Grants program (CFDA Number: 17.285; https://www.dol.gov/apprenticeship/) to meet the goals of the Trump administration to reduce the federal government’s role in creating and monitoring apprenticeship programs to help fill vacant jobs.
