Senate Sets HUD Spending Tone

Don’t expect more money for HUD programs when the entire FY 2016 federal spending outlook is being squeezed by lack of extra cash, Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) tells HUD Secretary Julian Castro in his first appearance before the Senate HUD appropriations subcommittee. It was Collins’ first appearance as chair of the subcommittee since Republicans took control of the Senate in January, and the GOP moderate wasted no time emphasizing she will not back the Obama administration’s $178 million proposal to house dishonorably discharged veterans at public expense.
