    NIEHS Invests $21.25 Million To Find Environmental Causes Of Parkinson’s Disease

    EPA Requests Proposals To Build Healthy Communities For Active Aging
       The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to award in early 2009 a total of $200,000 -- $100,000 each for two grants. Letters of intent are encouraged by Oct. 24. Proposals must be submitted by Nov. 21.

    NIA, McKnight Brain Research Foundation Join Forces On Grant Opportunities
       The Research Partnership in Cognitive Aging is a newly launched public-private effort to support current and emerging research on age-related changes in the brain and cognition. Jointly funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), one of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the McKnight Brain Research Foundation, through the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH), this effort is expected to award an estimated $20 million in research grants over the next five years.

    HHS To Provide $36 Million In Grants For Older Americans, Veterans
       The Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) is making available $36 million in new grant programs to 28 states to help older Americans and veterans remain independent and to support people with Alzheimer's disease so they can remain in their homes and communities. Just over $19 million of this funding involves a new collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

       The National Institues of Health will provide funding for the Edward R. Roybal Centers in their efforts to improve the health, well-being and productivity of older people. Eligibility is extended to state, county and local governments; institutions of higher education; tribal governments and organizations; independent school districts; small businesses.
