    PBGC Unveils Maximum Insurance Benefit For 2009
       The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) has unveiled the maximum insurance benefit for participants in underfunded pension plans terminating in 2009. The new maximum is $54,000 per year for those who retire at age 65, up from $51,750 for 2008. The amount is higher for those who retire later and lower for those who retire earlier or elect survivor benefits.

    AARP: Economic Slump Delaying Retirements
       A study released today by the AARP finds that "at least seven in 10 Americans older than 45 expect they will have to continue to work beyond 65," because "as the global economic slump affects their savings and pensions and the cost of living climbs...they will need the money or will need to support members of their family."

    Workers' Participation In Retirement Plans Shows Big Increase
       The percentage of workers participating in an employment-based retirement plan increased significantly in 2007 for the first time since 1998, with the increase affecting virtually all categories of workers, according to a study released today by the nonpartisan Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI).

       According to the 2008 FPA Financial Planner Attitudes and Perceptions about Retirement Income Planning study, demand for retirement income planning, retirement income products and services, is increasing, driven by a greater understanding on the part of Americans of the important differences between the two broad phases of retirement -- the accumulation or preparation phase and the distribution or income phase.
